Description
Water Street Studios Main Gallery will host a retrospective art exhibit of the highly regarded, late Chicago-area artist and poet, Nancy Carrigan, who passed away in July of 2014, at the age of 81.
Nancy was a true multimedia, multi-disciplined artist. In addition to painting, she was also a published poet, sculptor, fiction and children’s stories writer, editor, costume and set designer, and print maker. She worked mainly out of her Warrenville home studio for 26 years.
She once admitted to being frustrated by having to decide on which of her many pursuits to concentrate. She said, “I once read that someone told Leonardo da Vinci that if he’d stick to one thing he might amount to something. I’d like to be three people so I could paint more, write for children more and write more poetry.”
The gallery will be showing a collection of Nancy’s paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture. The exhibit will open on Friday, May, 13 at 6:00 pm and continue until June 4, 2016.
Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery
Art Flow 2016, which is Water Street Studios’ Batavia community outreach arts education program, will feature the work of some of this year’s students, ranging from grades 1 through 12, at the Kane County Chronicle gallery, located on the second floor at Water Street Studios.
Opening reception will be held May 13, from 6 – 9 p.m.
The show will be on view during regular gallery hours: Friday, 1-9 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. at 160 S. Water Street in Batavia.
