Batavia GREEN Program Returns for Second Year

Expanding Energy Savings Opportunities for Residents

BATAVIA, IL (April 6, 2026) — The City of Batavia is launching the second year of its GREEN (Grants for Residential Energy Efficiency in Neighborhoods) Program, building on a highly successful first year that helped residents reduce energy use, lower utility bills, and improve home efficiency.

Funded through the City’s single-use bag fee and supported this year by additional Kane County grant funding, the program continues to invest in sustainable improvements for Batavia households. The 2026 program will provide home energy audits and grant funding to up to 29 households.

In its inaugural year, the GREEN Program helped residents identify improvements capable of saving on energy costs as well as reducing their carbon footprint.

“We saw firsthand how powerful this program can be. Homeowners gained clear, actionable insights to improve efficiency, and we’re excited to help even more residents see those same results this year,” said GREEN Program audit provider Craig Schneider.

Batavia resident and GREEN Program participant Marci Morden said the program provided valuable guidance and made improvements possible.

“After carefully noting areas of energy inefficiency in our home, Craig patiently explained the results of his findings along with several options for increased efficiency,” Morden said. “Without the support of the GREEN program, setting up and performing the weatherization improvements would have been impossible.”

City Administrator Laura Newman said the program reflects Batavia’s commitment to practical, community-focused sustainability efforts.

“This program is about giving residents clear information and real options to make their homes more efficient,” Newman said. “By reinvesting local funding back into our community, we’re helping households manage costs while making meaningful progress toward our long-term sustainability goals.”

Audits take approximately four hours and are scheduled during normal business hours.

The GREEN Program is part of Batavia’s broader commitment to sustainability and responsible reinvestment of the single-use bag fee. With strong results in its first year, the City is expanding the program’s reach and impact in 2026.
